Updated: Sep 13, 2018

It’s the first Monday in May so you know what that means… Met Gala.

Rehearsal dinners should be very low stress, and a time to relax/enjoy with your closest guests before the big day! So, a fun Met Gala dinner party is a great way to bring in the glamour.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for the Costume Institute in New York City. Anna Wintour, Vogue Editor-in-Chief, painstakingly organizes the annual theme and handpicks every attendee. It’s an ultra-exclusive event, just like your rehearsal dinner, and attracts the biggest names in arts, music, television, and sports.

So here’s a quick guide on how to plan your own.

  1. Choose a theme: you can’t do Met Gala without creating an exciting theme that fits you and your partner’s personality. The 2018 theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

  2. Choose a venue/restaurant that serves champagne, and toast to the exciting future that’s to come!

  3. Serve a glamorous meal: use gold accents on plates, silverware, and cups and try to serve seasonal food. Very en Vogue.

  4. Give your guests the “Star Treatment” and have a red carpet moment! You might be pressed for time so you can use a red carpet runner from an arts & crafts store or Party City.

  5. You’ll need paparazzi: What’s a “gala” without pictures to prove it? The Maid of Honor and Best Man are tasked with taking unflattering pictures of eating, bad dancing, and closed eyes. SDS offers rehearsal dinner coverage and retouching for any elegant photos that are taken.

  6. Hand out luxury swag bags: presentation is key here, buy fancier gift bags from Target or Hallmark, and use gold ribbon. This is the perfect opportunity to give your bridal party their gifts before the wedding day!

7. Take a Met Gala Bathroom Selfie: The biggest moment of last year’s Met Gala was a star-studded bathroom mirror selfie taken by Kylie Jenner. Selfies get the people going!

8. Dance like no one is watching: You’re getting married and it may be your last night as single woman/man so enjoy it with family and friends.

Before everyone goes home from your lit Met Gala rehearsal dinner party make sure they know the key wedding day details. You want to be stress-free the next day, and you wouldn’t want any scenarios from ‘The Hangover’.

After your party, try to get a good night’s sleep. Even though the pre-wedding excitement might be keeping you up, you’re going to want that beauty-sleep!
